There should be a setting in the advanced settings for your monitor that will hide modes your monitor cannot displayHow to change screen resolution.?
Right click on the desktop screen.

On XP, go down to properties...

On Vista, go down to personalize....

Go to Display Settings, then adjust to 1280 x 1024.

Press OK.
Right click on your desktop properties select tab settings

Thens slide the bar along until you get the resolution you need it will show different resoulutions depending what monitor you have
Right click on the desktop click on graphics properties and go to dispaly settings and change the pixels you need.

or

right click on the desktop-%26gt;properties-%26gt;settings-%26gt;advance-%26gt;?list all modes and double click 1280 by 1024 to apply to the system.

or

Right click-%26gt;Properties-%26gt;settings and change the display settings

or

you can do that in control panel(which is not a shortcut atll)
There's an icon of the VGA driver you've installed in the tray , where you can find enough settings (different resolutions with different refresh rates) . Maybe you should decrease the refresh rate for the desired resolution . Good Luck .
