How do you change the Default Monitor for screen resolution?

I want to change my screen resolution to 1024 by 768 or higher but it won't do it. It stays on 640 by 480 w/ 16 bit color quality. I also tried Advanced but it shows 1024 by 768 w/ 256 colors and I dont want that. I want it to be be normal. Someone please help me...I'm sick of looking at it so huge. How do you change the Default Monitor for screen resolution?
If your graphics card is capable of a higher resolution but you can't set it the Display Properties %26gt; Settings you probably have the wrong driver installed. Update the video driver with the newest available at the manufacturers web site. How do you change the Default Monitor for screen resolution?
