Run your Anti-virus, and Anti-spyware programs. Then restart your computer. It could be a virus of some sort.

I want to change my screen resolution to 1600*1050 and I have 1600*1200 and 1440*900 as settings, but not the one I want. How would I go about changing it to what I want it to be?Changing my resolution to one not listed?
You can only have certain resolutions, I'm afraid, as it's based on what your graphics card is able to support.

How do I fix my screen resolution without going into control panel?

Okay, for school we have laptops. Now, while playing diner dash, i shut my laptop and when I opened it back up. My screen resolution was changed. It's really small. Control Panel on my laptop is blocked so does anyone know how I can change this? It's really fustrating %26amp; also do you know how to turn off the monitor %26amp; stop it from going into sleep mode(whatever mood is the equivalent to shutting the laptop) at a certain time? this would be greatly appreciated. How do I fix my screen resolution without going into control panel?
you need either an admin to change the display setting or yourself if you are an admin.

I doubt the control panel is blocked. No controls are offered that do that. so...try in opening control panel like this:

go to start menu, click on RUN and type there control.exe

    then click on OK

if it doesnt open it will tell you why by giving you a message. make sure to write that down so we know what the message says. typically your control panel could be disabled by a computer administrator who setup that laptop. we need to get it enabled and ensure he doesn't know you have enabled it so you wont get in trouble. but i will tell you that the next time.

    all the best for now

you have to go into your options during game play and change them to the size you want.

    example: 768 x 1068
You shoul go to Control Panel - Desktop and change your screen resolution there.

Hope it solves your problem ;)
Go to your desk top. Click the mouse pointer on the desk top (not an icon), using the right mouse button, select SETTINGS and change it to some of the other settings.
If all else fails, do a system restore back to a date when you know the resolution was correct. This tip works for WinME and WinXP.
Go with the first answer... some people don't pay attention to the actual question... you have to change the resolution during the game. All the options are in the menu when you hit ESC during the game.

I'll be quick with the story...

I lent my computer to my friend and he played some type of game that changed the resolution of my screen. Now, when I go in and try to switch my resolution to a size I can handle it will not let me due to the fact that the font is so large I cannot access the 'Apply' button on the bottom.

I have tried to change the computer back to factory settings. Everything goes back except my screen resolution.

Do you have a scroll wheel on a mouse plugged into your portable? If you do, hold down the Ctrl key (bottom left of keyboard), and scroll the scroll wheel on your mouse away from you one click. See what it does to the display... do it again until you are comfortable with the display. It works in this window quite well, lol, I tested it to make sure it was changing before suggesting it.

Actually, you need to click on start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; Display %26gt; Settings %26gt; Color Quality. (Sometimes when something doesn't open right away, right click and a pop-up appears, select Open)

Generally, once you get to Color quality, there is a drop-down menu that you access by clicking on the little down arrow in the Color Quality box. Then just select the level of color you want.

Hope this helps and good luck. Now that i have my screen resolution to 1024 x 768, how do i get the color back to normal because its low?
right click on the desktop and select properties. Then go to the Settings tab and change the color quality.
right click anywhere on ur desktop, go to properties, choose settings tab, under color quality choose highest (32bit)
You cant. It depends on your graphics card and monitor combination. You'll trade color depth for higher resolution and vice-versa.

More than likely you need a new driver for your graphics card/monitor. If you don't know/can't find the model information, use this: http://www.gold-software.com/UnknownDevi
You need to update your video card drivers. If you have onboard video (no video card) then go to your motherboard manufacturer website and download their drivers. Follow directions to install. If you do have a separate video card that is not part of the board then you need to find out what make and model it is, then go to that manufacturer's website to find the latest drivers.

If you want to see what make and model your motherboard is just go to http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and click download on the top left.

    Hope this helps.

Go to ';device manager'; in Windows Control Panel =%26gt; hardware. Then click ';display adapters';. This will tell you what specific graphics card you have.

    Changing the screen resolution?

I know how to change my screen resolution and I have it on the highest option available to me (1280x800) . I was just wondering if there was anyway to make the resolution even higher. I'm running windows vista. thanks.Changing the screen resolution?
Most graphics cards nowadays, read from your monitor the available resolutions that it can tolerate. Your resolution檚 minimum and maximum is linked to both: Your graphics card檚 and your monitor檚 resolution tolerance.

For example: If you had a 15'; monitor. Your maximum resolution would be 1024 by 768, most cards will only give you this maximum for this monitor size. If you had a 19'; monitor used on the same graphics card, maximum resolution would become 1280 by 1024. That is, if your graphics card can go that high.Changing the screen resolution?
No. Not unless you buy new hardware. The maximum resolution available is determined by the resolution supported by your graphics card and monitor.
The maximum possible depends on your VGA card in the computer and of course the support highest resolution on the monitor.

Okay. I've tried and tried to figure what's wrong with it but it's making me mad now. Alright, this is what I did when my graphics card was being a butthole and I had to run it in a window for a while (then found out I just had to restart the computer :P). You go to it, whether you have an icon on your desktop or it's in the Start Menu. You right click on it and go to the bottom of the list, 'Properties'. Then go to 'Target:' which should already be highlighted. Click in the box to where it isn't highlighted. At the end, there's exe';. After that, put a space, and then '-w'. The 'W' is for 'Window'. if it isn't what you wanted, you can change it back to fullscreen by changing the W to F. 'F' for fullscreen. I'm sure you guessed. :)How to the change The Sims 2 screen resolution?
you can change the resolution in the fifth button to different resolutions, but they will always be fullscreen unless and until you start running your game in windowed mode. I do, and it's much better than fullscreen, and allows for more flexibility with your computer while the game is running.

Once the game is in windowed mode, you can change how much of your screen space it uses by changing the resolution settings in the game as mentioned above.

The only thing you have to do is add a -w at the end of your shortcut. You can do this with any of the expansion packs, too.

    Detailed Instructions:

Right click on your shortcut, select properties, then select the tab that says ';shortcut.'; At the very end of the Target path (after the ';), put in a space then -w and click OK.

It should look something like ';c:/blahblah......sims2.exe'; -w

    happy simming!
Click the fifth button, with live mode being the first button, then click the picture of a computer moniter. The rest should be simple

How do I get web pages to fit onto my screen?

Many web pages are too large to fit on my screen, and I have to constantly scroll left to right to read them. It's really annoying. I only have two choices for screen resolution - 800 by 600 pixels and 1024 by 768 pixels. I can't seem to modify the resolution to anything else. Right now the monitor is set to 800 by 600 pixels. MY DPI is set at Normal Size (96 DPI). My monitor is a Dell E551c.

All I want is to have a normal sized web page that fits onto the screen. I don't want a tiny display that fits but is way too small, such as hitting Ctrl -. I've tried several combinations of changing screen resolution and DPI settings, but haven't found one that works. I've also looked for drivers, but it keeps saying that my drivers are up to date.

Any ideas???How do I get web pages to fit onto my screen?
You need a bigger monitor than your 15 inch dell.

It was designed for 800 by 600 and that is the whole display. Most web pages are designed with at least 800 by 600 web page size so when you add in the browser address bar, status bar etc, scrolling is needed.

To put a lot of info (a whole web page) on a small space (a dell 15 inch monitor) requires a small font or a lot of scrolling. Your eyesight cant handle small fonts and your hands dont like the scrolling so get a new larger monitor.

Get at least a 19 inch flat panel. The video tube 19 inchers are hulking beasts and not desk-friendly. After 3 minutes, you will wonder how you could have ever used that 15 inch screen. How do I get web pages to fit onto my screen?

Also, be sure you have the most current video drivers for your computer. Depending on the video card you may need to uninstall your current driver, and then shut down the computer, turn it back and install the new drivers.

Be sure to download the latest drivers before you perform the above procedure.

Enjoy your game!Screen resolution changes when trying to play game?
mm. I'm not really sure but i think it might be a configuration of the resolution in your television's menu or it might also be that your cable box has a function to auto set the resolution for different channels, i used to have the same problem. If you have many things connected to your TV including a cable box, then maybe calling to have some one to fix it might be a good option.
The game may only display in that resolution. A lot of older games display best in a lower resolution. I'm not exactly how to fix it, but that's why it keeps on changing!

You could download a command line tool called Qres. Then make a batch file to run it. One batch file would set it to 800x600 another would set it to 1024x768.

Then create a shortcut to the batch files and assign a hotkey to the shortcut from the properties menu.

This happens when your monitor doesnt support the resolution that you chose. To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1.Restart your computer and keep hitting F8 function key.

2.Choose safe mode from the options when displayed on the screen.

3.Now, when your dekstop is accessible, change your resolution to a lower level than you previously did and restart again. This should have solved the problem now.

Note: Try for different resolutions if that doesnt work. I would recommend 800X600 or 1024X168.When i change the screen resolution why does the screen go black ?

Your video card is not made for whatever you are trying to change it to. You'll need to get a better video card.
It's all because your screen does not accept that resolution.

Not all Monitors allow the highest resolution.

You can check the manufacturer specifications. That's behind your monitor. If it does not say it. Check the Model and Google it

    Good luck
This will happen usually if you have a LCD type screen. - Flat Panel.

You are trying to use a resolution it can not handle

CRT Television type screens - are far more tolerant to this. They may look bad but will generally work in a way LCD screens wont.

Look at the instructions that came with the screen.

To sort it out start your computer and press ';F8'; - this may vary - to get the options to start screen.

Select VGA Mode and when Windows starts right click in a vacant area of your screen and select properties then Settings.

Input the correct setting for your screen.
your computer is jealous with your beauty.....i think so.
Though it sounds simple, we often do not ask ourselves what we are doing. When we talk of resolution, we must first check what resolution is supported by your monitor.

Well it may mean that that resolution is not supported by your monitor so in that right click on the desktop and then go to properties and then click the settings tab and then click advanced button below and then select monitor tab and then again click the ';hide modes that this monitor cannot display'; and then press ok.. now you can see only the resolutions supported by your monitor.. if that doesn't work reinstall the monitor drivers correctly... thanks.

both of those aspects control how big you can get your screen resolution

As an alternative, you might try a different video card, but I'm not sure about that. Also, kinda pricey to do so.

Sometimes after I come back from sleep on my notebook Vista changes my screen resolution from 1280x800 to 1024x768. I can change it back but it is an annoyance. Unlike the previous person, I'm not going to tell you get rid of Vista. I, in turn, will take the time to research your problem and will give you various ways to fix your problem.

First of all, make sure you have the latest driver for your video card (see URL below).

Secondly, check the 2nd URL, read the article and then find the hotfix that applies to your problem and download it. HOWEVER, if it doesn't apply to your problem, don't install the hotfix.

The previous answers explain the ';where'; part, but the REAL question is:

IS it an LCD monitor? If so, LCD monitors (Digital) aren't the same as CRT monitors (Analog).

Use ONLY the ';Native Resolution AND Screen Refresh Rate (60 HZ)'; as specified on the manufacturer's web site for your LCD monitor, by model number.

Find them, then, right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties (XP, Personalize, if Vista) to open the Display Properties Window. In Display Properties %26gt; Settings TAB, set to the correct ';Native'; resolution, then click on the Advanced Button, then the Monitor Tab to set the correct Screen Refresh Rate.

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Click the ';Start'; button in Windows.

    Step 2 Select ';Control Panel.';

    Step 3 Select ';Appearance and Themes.';

    Step 4 Select ';Change the Screen Resolution.';

Step 5 Look at the left side of the ';Display Properties'; dialog window. About half way down the screen you will see a box labeled ';Screen resolution.'; There is an adjustable slider in this box.

Step 6 Move the slider left or right, by holding down the left mouse button, and moving the mouse in the appropriate direction. Release the button when the slider is pointing to the resolution you desire.

    Step 7 Click the ';Apply'; button at the bottom right of the window. The screen will go black for an instant, and then will switch to the new resoulution. You will also see a message pop up asking you to confirm the setting. If you are unsatisfied with the appearance, then click ';no,'; and try another resolution. Otherwise, click ';yes.';

How do I fix the blurriness when I change my screen resolutions?

I recently got the MS Blaster worm and had to get my computer reformatted (Windows XP). When I got my computer back and connected it to my screen, it was off centered with a big black vertical bar on the left side. So I went to my properties and lowered my settings to screen resolutions 1280 by 800. The screen is now centered, but all of my features are blurry. The icons are slightly stretched vertically and the text is barely legible. This computer and monitor make is a HP Pavilion f1703. How do I make the blurriness go away and fix everything so that it is normal? How do I fix the blurriness when I change my screen resolutions?
Install the latest drivers for your graphics chip/card. If anything your running on the Windows drivers which aren't all that good and work just as bad. I posted links to both Nvidias and ATIs website for their respective drivers. How do I fix the blurriness when I change my screen resolutions?
The HP f1703 has a native resolution of 1280x1024, so set your resolution to that. If the image is off-center when you do, you have to use the menu buttons on the front of the monitor to enter the menu and adjust ';Vertical Position'; and ';Horizontal Position';.
non-native resolutions can do that without adjustments. put it in the one you want, and then use the controls on your monitor (the physical button ones) to move and stretch your screen until the ascpect ratio (squareness of the square things) is correct.
    You have to increase your Screen Refresh Rate , follow steps i hope that can help you;

Right Click your desktop -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; Settings Tab -%26gt; Press Advanced -%26gt; Monitor Tab -%26gt; There is a Screen Refresh Rate , increase your monitor hertz from there.

If you get message '; Out of Range '; you have to select lower values.

If ';hide modes that this monitor cannot display'; unchecked , check it , otherwise you can get out of range message.

    By the way there is a good program for lock your refresh rates, it name ';Refresh Lock'; , you can download it from ;

Change resolution of Dell Inspiron Mini! HELP!!?

I have a Dell Inspiron mini, and it used to pop up a window sometimes when I turned it on, where it said that my computer could have a better resolution, and asked me if I wanted to change it.

I always answered ';NO'; cause if I changed it, my screen would look bigger than usual, actually it seems like its a worst resolution and its like I can see the pixels... But yesterday I changed it but not on purpusse and now I dont know how to go back to my old resolution... PLEASE HELP!

    The actual resolution I have is: 800 X 600

I already restarted the pc and nothing happened. I've tried to change it on the Display Properties settings but it didnt work. I also went to ';Intel Graphic properties Media'; and I changed the screen resolution for 640 X 480 and it looked too big, then I changed it for 1024 X 576 and it looked smaller but still it had a very bad quality.

Please help me! (sorry for my English by the way)

I dont know if I can upload some pics or something like that so u can see how my screen looks...

    Its urgent!! HELP!

Thanks.Change resolution of Dell Inspiron Mini! HELP!!?
I would need to know what the native resolution is for your monitor. If you can give me the model number of the dell mini, I can tell you what your resolution SHOULD be. However, since it was prompting you to change to a higher resolution, you were not running at the correct (native) resolution for the monitor. I would right click on the desktop, and go to Properties (Win XP), Customize (Vista), or Display Resolution (Win 7) and move the slider from left to right, stopping at every setting until it looks right to you.

Other then that, if you get me the model number, i will tell you what the native resolution of the monitor is so that it will look the way it was designed to.

How do you get a better screen resolution for Windows 7?

I currently updated my computer to Windows 7 and the words looked a little big so I changed the screen resolution to1024 x 768 and it looked a little better, but then I put it to 1280 x 1024 and my computer said OUT OF RANGE so how could you make it fit a 1280 x 1024 resolution. How do you get a better screen resolution for Windows 7?
The problem lies with your monitor, it has a maximum resolution of 1024x768 (must be a pretty old monitor).

If you want to exceed that your only option is to buy a new monitor. How do you get a better screen resolution for Windows 7?
It depends on your monitor. If it says out of range then you either have the wrong/none drivers for your videocard or your monitor is an old cathode ray type. Most 17 inch LCD screens run at 1280x1024. You cant force it.

All LCD monitors have a NATIVE resolution, this means they are always sharpest at THEIR NATIVE resolution (ie;1280x1024 for 17inch LCD) and should be run at that. Windows 7 should have selected the correct setting for your screen unless you have not loaded the correct video drivers.
Do you know the resolution your screen ran at before you upgraded to Win7? If it's higher than 1280x1024, you might need to see if you require a monitor driver, or perhaps Win7 is trying to force a refresh rate that's not supported at that resolution.

You could also try running Windows Update to see if there's a missing driver that hasn't been installed and might need to be loaded.

Depends on what platform you're using. Try these...

    Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a ';keyboard error'; message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method

    Close all open programs.

Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK

The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the ';/SAFEBOOT'; option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.

The computer restarts in Safe mode.

Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.

When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck ';/SAFEBOOT'; and click OK to restart your computer

Windows as part of a multiboot system

Use this method ONLY if you have multiple operating systems installed on your computer.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

When the Boot loader menu (list of the available operating systems) appears, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the version Windows what you want

Press Enter, and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears.

Scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

    Windows Vista

Windows Vista is similar to Windows XP for starting in Safe Mode.

Turn the computer on or Restart the computer

Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a ';keyboard error'; message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)

Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would. How to fix my Screen Resolution?
Since your in Safe Mode, go to your Properties, and slide your resolution all the way to the LEFT.

And then try it in normal mode again.

one of two things could be happening,

    1. You dont have the video card display drivers installed, In which case you have to download them and install them

    OR

    2. Your monitor doesnt support resolutions past 1024x768 and the software wont allow for going past the monitors max resolution unless 3rd party software is installed. How do i change the screen resolution to 1280x1024. right now it only goes up to 1024x768.?
If you've been through the properties menu and you can't change the resolution. Then your new screen simply can't go there!

Your screen seems to be a downgrade of the original fit and software won't fix the problem.

you go anywhere on the screen (not on an icon) right click and then click on properties, then you go to the tab on the top that says settings on the bottom left there should be a littile box that says screen resolution and you drag the arrow to where you want the screen resolution to be

I hope this helps =]]How do I change my screen resolution to my monitor's best resolution (1440x900)???
right click your mouse on the desktop. go to properties then select ';settings.'; as you can see there, there are options in which you can change your screen resolution according to the available resolutions. sometimes the maximum you can see is only 1024 x 768 however there are also some OS installations that gives you the best results and offers you a much bigger choices of screen resolutions.
you need to select 1440x900 from that drop down list thing-a-ma-ling

make sure you have all drivers installed.....on your computer and also install the drivers from the CD you got with the monitor

How can I change my screen resolution to 1360x768?

We have connected our Dell Inspiron 530S Desktop PC to a Toshiba 19DV615DB LCD TV using a VGA lead.

We can use the PC ok, but screen resolution is wrong (font size too large, windows too large to navigate easily in etc!). Toshiba recommend setting resolution at 1360x768 but we don't have this option with our existing graphics card. We have downloaded latest driver to support current card (Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family) but still don't have the option of 1360x768! Have also downloaded some software called Powerstrip which is supposed to let you configure additional resolutions but we still cant seem to get 1370x768 - can anyone help please? Thank you!How can I change my screen resolution to 1360x768?
Go to Display Properties, click on the Advanced button, and under the Monitor tab make sure the box for ';Hide modes that this monitor cannot display'; is not checked.

Then go to the Adapter tab and click on the ';List all modes'; button and see if you can find 1360x768 resolutions there, and try to select it.

I just upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium, but before this i had Windows XP Sp2 and my screens resolution was at the highest it can be, but since i upgraded to Vista i cant change it it can only stay at the lowest, and the color can only be at 16 Bit, when i was on XP i could change the color to 32 Bit, but Vista wont let me, if there is a way to fix this, or if i have to go back to XP i am willing to do either!

My screen resolution changed by itself and the settings I used to have disappeared..what happened?

    The problem is...

I used to have a screen resolution fine for a 17' screen, I don't remember the exact umbers but it was higher than 1024 x 768.

This morning I turned the pc on and the resolution is 1024 x 768, and if I try to change it, the previous option is disappeared and I can only chose between 800x600 and 1024x768!

Why is that? How can I restore my previous resolution?

Thank you very much..My screen resolution changed by itself and the settings I used to have disappeared..what happened?
Ur monitor driver or grahics card driver may have corrupt or changed. Look for the correct monitor driver install. reinstalling drivers solve problem. My screen resolution changed by itself and the settings I used to have disappeared..what happened?
did u change ur monitor? well if u didn't then try system restore .
As an IT technician it sounds to me like you graphics card drivers have gone corrupt, Try reinstalling your graphics card from scratch that should do the trick.
1024x768 is the setting for a crt monitor. you can try going higher in controll panel, display settings, and try changing it. I doubt you'll be happy with it. If you have a LCD monitor try setting it for 1440X900.

You can try refreshing your display device driver.

In Windows XP: Right-Click on ';My Computer'; choose ';Properties';, ';Hardware'; tab, ';Device Manager'; button, look under the ';Display Adapters'; drop-down. Find your display adapter, right-click on it and choose ';Uninstall';.

When you reboot, it should re-detect the video card and install the correct drivers. If this does not work, you may have an IRQ or other resource conflict. You may be able to go into your cMOS setup at boot time and reset the PCI Bus ';auto configuration';.

You can also try re-installing the display drivers.

You seem to have not installed the proper drivers. Make sure that you have installed the correct version of Catalyst from ATi (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html)

Once that is done check the display tab of directx to make sure it recognizes your X300. Type 'dxdiag' into the run box from the start menu. Under device, see if you recognize the name.

Once that is done, right click on your desktop and choose properties. Then change your resolution in the settings tab. Not running with the proper drivers first can damage your card.(got a new graphics card) now how do i change the screen resolution..?

To circumvent the issue of screen resolution changing during boot-up or restarting from sleep, configure your screen saver setting to ';display logon screen';. This worked for me when all other suggested solutions (drivers etc. would not.).

Only if it is HD, when you say you can't change video inputs are you saying if you use the remote and push the ';input or device'; button you are not offered the choice to change from one device DVD to another antenna for example. If an option that was there before is no longer there then you should push the menu button and go to ';net command'; click preview and see if the options list has all the little boxes on the left checked.

some remotes for Mitsubishi use a different term than others, and if you are on satellite then the receiver may be controlling the 480,720,1080 setting you can access this with the satellite remote control under setup.

When I try to change my screen resolution, it says ';Out of Range';?

Currently, my screen resolution is on 1440 x 900, which doesn't fit my widescreen monitor. Whenever I try to change it to 1680 x 1050 the screen goes black and a little box with an i on it says ';Out of Range';.

It's usually set to 1680 x 1050...I don't really know how it got to 1440 x 900. And I have a vista, if that makes any difference.

Could someone please tell me how to get the right resolution back? When I try to change my screen resolution, it says ';Out of Range';?
Out of Range will also crop up if the refresh range is incorrect. If possible on your PC try changing both the resolution and refresh rate (try lowering it) before hitting apply. When I try to change my screen resolution, it says ';Out of Range';?
Your video card doesn't have the capability to show resolutions that high, or you don't have one. Or maybe your monitor is not compatible with that resolution.
    Who changed the resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1440 x 900?

1680x1050 is a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is the computer wide screen standard, and 1440 x 900 is a 16:9 aspect ratio which is television wide screen (HDTV) standard. Not a lot of graphics cards will handle both. Complicating things is Vista, which under some conditions can install a software conversion to allow HDTV to be shown on your monitor screen.

It takes 720i and multiplies it, in this case by two and blocks out the extra lines on the bottom of the screen. I am not too familiar with the way Vista can be told to switch to HDTV standard. (not too many people are%26lt; as far as I know),

So you either have a monitor which has a switch on it someplace to let it accept HDTV signals from a tuner which will send the audio to a speaker system, or the change was made in vista, and every time it boots it sets the screen to 1440 to 900. this is not done through the control panel, which is why I suggest you find who in the family made the change, and hopefully by reversing whatever was done, you can get your whole screen back.

How do I change my monitor's screen resolution to widescreen?

Hello.. guys... I have a problem... I have a squared monitor or a 4:3 monitor that looks kinda like this:

    http://techgage.com/reviews/samsung/743b/samsung_743b_01_thumb.jpg

And I want to change the screen resolution to widescreen but when i try to do so with the windows display options, it supposedly changes it to widescreen but it only stretches out, the image looks ugly and it still fills up the entire screen. I wish I could just put it widescreen and I don't care if black stripes appeared at the top and button of the screen. All I want is a 16:9 resolution on my 4:3 monitor. :S I don't know if that's possible? Any help would help. Thanks in advance! How do I change my monitor's screen resolution to widescreen?

It sounds like you don't have current video card drivers.

    Try this;

    1) connect to the internet (assuming you are dial out or if always connected no issue)

2)RH mouse click on my computer RH not LH

3)Drop down to Properties - the bottom selection

    4)LH mouse click on Properties

5)Select with LH mouse click Hardware

    6)LH Mouse select ';Device Manager';

    7)LH Mouse select from the devices ';Display Adapters';

8)RH, not LH, Mouse click on your video Adapter

    9)LH mouse click on ';Update Driver';

    10) Select update driver this one time (Top Selection ';This time only';)

    11)Select ';install the software automatically';

    12)Select next on the bottom

13)It should go on the net, if this is a MS Supported Video Card, update the drives and if it does so then click finish.

    14) Then try to change the video settings

If it doesn't do an update and says cannot do update then you will need to go to your MFG's site, Like www.dell.com. They will ask what you want to do in one verbage or another similar to below.

select support, then software, then drivers, then it will or already did ask for your model and or ID tag, download the video drive and run the install and then after, mostlikly rebooting attempt to adjust your video pixal settings.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.

thomas_heering@hotmail.comI can't change my screen resolution...?
You need the drivers for your system's video card. Otherwise, all you'll have are the generic Windows VGA drivers which usually don't go higher than 800x600x16 bits. If you still have the driver disk that came with your computer, try that. Otherwise, find out what graphics system your PC has, either form the manual or Googling it online. If it's a common graphics system, then you shopuld be able to find drivers online at the graphics manufacturer's site.

You could also look in the Hardware manager at what graphics system is installed. Use the Windows-Break key combo to get into the system properties.

If you can get into the GRUB menu when you boot you should have the option of booting in verbose or some kind of ';safe'; mode. You should then be able to change the resolution. I didn't know how to do this when it happened to me and had to reinstall.

How Do I Change My Screen Resolution to 1280x1024?

Ok, I know that it sounds easy but really its not like that. I have a ViewSonic VA721 runnig on a S3 Graphics ProSavage video card. My computer is a Compaq Presario. I REINSTALLED WINDOWS XP because I had to renew my computer. When I go on properties%26gt; settings%26gt; screen resolution, its 800x600 and the other is 1024x768. Just click the slider control and drag it to high side.
The chances are you need to install the drivers for your graphics card. These should be on a CD that came with either the graphics card, if it was bought separately, or on the motherboard driver CD if you have on-board graphics.

If you don't have the CD, you'll need to click on Start (bottom left of your screen, if you're using Windows XP) %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; System %26gt; Select the Hardware tab %26gt; Click on Device Manager %26gt; scroll down to Display Adapters. Here it will tell you what graphics card you have present.

If you have on-board graphics, you'll need to go to the manufacturer of your motherboard and download the drivers from there.
before you change your desktop resolution make sure you have the graphics card drivers installed and you are using the up to date drivers

then go to start%26gt;control panel%26gt;display properties%26gt;settings%26gt;then use the resolution bar to change the screen resolution,if your monitor is only a 15inch you can normally only go up to 1024x768,a 17inch monitor can go up to 1280x1024 and most others can normally reach their max resolutions

also you want to check your colour quality,16 or 32bit is the best quality, then also check your refresh rate, this is how fast the monitor displays your images ect, again this depends on your monitor size, however windows wont let you set your desktop to a refresh rate that it wont support

for example a 17'; crt monitor has a max refresh rate of 85hz,and a 17'; tft has a max refresh rate of 75hz,but check your monitors manual or website for refresh rates as setting it too high can damage the monitor and too low can strain your eyes

    good luck mate
If none of the above works, it may be your video card is not up to the settings you are trying to achieve.
when you are in display settings just move slider bar over to higher settings . this will decrease when u slide it right and increase when you move it left, example text size
Assuming that you cannot change the slider position in display properties, (after right clicking on empty area of the desktop and clicking properties then settings): Go to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager. Left click the plus sign next to display adapters. Right click on the adapter underneath it and left click on uninstall. Restart your computer. Allow reinstallation of hardware. Restart again. See if you can now change the display settings (steps given at beginning of my answer).
    James has it right
richt click on your desktop, click properties

    click the settings tab

change to the resolution you want.
You can't slide the 'slider', but have you tried clicking the scale at the highest end to move it?
Left click your mouse on the desktop, scroll down to properties... click on settings... there should be a slide bar for you to manipulate at this point... slide left for less resolution and right for more resolution.

Be gentle with the bar as you might lock your computer up if you rush the process.

    Hope this helps!

Why is screen resolution changed when I get on Yahoo?

My screen is set to 1024 X 768 and always has been (5 yrs.). But, as of 3 hours ago, when I go to Yahoo.com it comes up in a larger (800 X 600) resolution and I'm routed to a Yahoo screen that tells me how to change my resolution to 1024 X 768. If I minimize IE, my screen is still at 1024 X 768 as it should be. Has/is anyone else experiencing this? If so, have you found a cure? Why is screen resolution changed when I get on Yahoo?
Try Firefox, if it happens there it might be a virus. Reason why I say try Firefox is not because I'm trying to get you to switch, it is to narrow down the possibilities of what could be causing your problem.

How do I change my computer resolution if the screen keeps moving?

My computer resolution changed automatically, so I changed it back, but to a really high resolution, and now it keeps moving, and going black every couple of seconds. It is impossible to change the resolution as the screen keeps moving. I have tried restarting it (with difficulty), I have turned it off at the main power supply and turned it back on and it still starts up with a moving screen. Why does my screen resolution change after hibernation?

I have a new Dell Vostro laptop on Windows XP. After hibernating, my screen display comes out in an enlarged resolution so I can't even see the entire screen and it even shifts side to side or up and down as I move my mouse pointer in that direction.

To fix it I simply right click on the desktop, select properties, go to settings and move the resolution to anything, apply it and then it is corrected. I usually move it to the max resolution but it doesn't make a difference as the problem recurs, not everytime, but most of the time. The resolution seems to be right where I last set it so its not like its resetting itself to a certain resolution each time.

How do I permanently fix this issue? Why does my screen resolution change after hibernation?

You have to install the latest drivers for your video card, if it is onboard graphics then the best bet is to look up the model number on the motherboard and do a drivers search for it.

If it is an Nvidia or ATI graphics card go on there website and download their latest drivers.

With them installed you should then be able to change the resolution without further hassle
if Ur screen is 17p,press the right button of the mouse, choose, propritites then settings, after that press advanced,at the first page U can change the ';dpi';(general) and at (Adapter) U will find the resolution by clicking on (list all modes)then choose what U want, have a nice day
