This problem can have the following causes,

1. Ur AGP or monitor does not support more than those 2 resolutions. U amy need to change ur AGP or Monitor. See the sys requirments of that game to know if u have the correct AGP and driver.

2. u are using a old driver ar the driver is dameged.

Try downloading the latest driver from ur AGP's website.Cant Change my Screen Resolution!?
Questions...%26amp; I still don't know if I can help. What is your operating system, Windows_? Are you talking about 8 bit then? That game must be farly old. Did you ever try finding the file in your computer of the game itself? It would be something like ';the game';.exe %26amp; run it from there...2x clicking the file. Maybe the game got corrupted %26amp; a message box will popup %26amp; tell you so. If you right click on the .exe file %26amp; click properties it has limited info. If you right click %26amp; see a ';compatibility'; tab, you might be able to run it as a lesser operating system program. Also, do you need 800x600 screen resolution %26amp; are you stuck at 1024x768? If none of this works run checkdisk %26amp; check the fix files option...restart your computer if it tells you it will have to start at restart. It'll take about 20 minutes %26amp; you can watch it run. Checkdisk is Scandisk on older computers. Hopefully it will fix your problem getting to a different resolution.
Assuming you want the screen resolution to be 640x480, right-click on the games icon and select properties. Click the Compatibility tab and place a checkmark beside ';Run in 640 x 480 screen resoltion'; then click Apply. Open the game and it will be in its proper resolution!

First are you attempting to make it smaller or bigger. If you are attempting a resolution your system does not support it will not allow you to set it. Also does your system know what type of video card and monitor you have? On the same screen you can change your resolution, it should say this monitor on this video card.

  • Screen Resolution Stuck On Lowest Setting?

Recently, our computer crashed and we managed to recover it. As soon as we switched it back on, the colours of the screen were wrong. E.g, the start bar at the bottom of the screen is really bright blue. The colours of the tool bars are also wrong. We try to go into display settings to change the screen resolution, but it is stuck on the lowest setting. We are unable to drag the slider across. We are also unable to connect to the internet. Any suggestions on how to change the resolution and how to get on the internet would be appreciated.Screen Resolution Stuck On Lowest Setting?
this is a VERY common problem, all that you need to do is download the appropriate video drivers for your computer and then you should be able to adjust your settings just like you normally would. i constantly reformat hard drives and restore computers to new windows installations and this is the answer every time. drivers can be found with a simple google search for the right model name and numbers if you need help finding this information then i recommend the freeware program ';CPU-Z'; it is very small and gives a very accurate description of what your computer has inside, simply click the video tab and all you need will be right there

I've set my screen resolution on normal mode too high(I can't remember but it is too high) and now every time I turn on the computer I got a black screen. I tried on safe mode and VGA mode and it works well and no black screen.

I was going to ask if how can I change the screen resolution on normal mode this way since I can't go in the normal mode?Black screen because of too high resolution?

the option is not available from the menu..How can i change my screen resolution to 1680x1050 on a dell in windows xP?
That is a massive screen res.

Are you sure your monitor supports it?

Maybe your video card does not have enough memory to output at that res in ';true color';.

If in doubt you should download and install the latest video drivers for your video card. That can definately affect available res if you are using a generic driver.

But that's still a huge resolution - what are you using - a 24'; monitor? How can i change my screen resolution to 1680x1050 on a dell in windows xP?
If the option isn't there, then it means that your monitor cannot support it.

However, if you are comfortable with panning around, you can create a custom resolution in your Nvidia control panel. Click on Manage Custom Resolutions, click Create, then make your own.

Yeah, your monitor only supports up to 1440x900. You can make it 1680x1050 but you will need to pan around to see it all.

BTW, that isn't a big resolution. If you have a 24';, it will be 1920x1200 probably.

First off I would get rid of ME- its the worst operating system that windows has created. Crashes all the time. But to answer your question: Right click on your desktop and you should have an option for properties. left click on that. Should open a window saying ';display properties'; left click on the tab for Settings...on the lower right of this window will be a left right scroll bar that changes the settings. Move it to the right to make the icons on the screen smaller so you have a higher resolution. How can I change my screen resolution.I just installed ME edition.I went to my control panel %26amp; it says 640x800
This is because you need to install the proper drivers for your graphics card. You may have them on a driver CD (most proably motherboard driver cd as Gcards r built into the motherbaord these days)

download the graphics drivers from support.dell.com and install them.
You need to reinstall the drivers for your display adapter, according to my boyfriend the computer whiz. If you went from something other than XP to this XP pro you may have to go to the XP website and download hte drivers
Usually you're limited to those resolutions if you don't have SVGA Drivers. Find out the make and model of your video card, go to the manufacturer website and find the latest drivers for your card. You might have to open up your tower. Or if you can, go to Computer Mgmt. and tool around in there.
Assuming you have a PC and not a Mac, go to Start, select Control Panel, Appearances, Display, Display Properties, Settings (each in turn) and then use the controls on that display to obtain what you want.

Don't worry. If you don't get it right the first time, nothing will explode. Do be aware that you shorten the life of your monitor, the higher your settings. Not a biggie if you plan to replace in, say, three years, but a definite consideration if you are going for the long haul.
I reformat my computer a lot just pop in the driver disk

If you dont have a driver disk get the drivers for the video card.

Can anyone please help me with this? How can I change my screen resoultion on Windows XP?
If you are locked into 800x600 mode, you may not be using the right drivers for your graphics card and/or monitor. Windows XP will often fall back into 800x600 mode as a failsafe in this situation. You may want to try visiting the manufacturer's website, and see if you can grab updated drivers from there.

I used to have such problem. I installed Ubuntu on laptop (with max 1024x768), but I am using external monitor (with max 1600x1200). I don't remember the exact solution to this problem.

The problem lies with X windows system configuration (assuming the drivers are ok). The drivers are probed for maximum resolution during installation, and after that the system simply assumes the resolution is ok.

You need to go through manuals for X window system configuration and reset it. If I am not mistaken, it is some .conf file within /etc/X11 or something.Cant change ubuntu screen resolution?
I suggest you check and see if your video card drivers are compatible with Ubuntu. This can prevent you from making changes to the display settings.
You can easily click on ';Desktop'; from menu bar.

then go to preferences and choose resolution size.

    finally choose your favorite resolution.

But I think it would't work so good. choosing the resolution during the installation is the best way.

My screen resolution change after few monitor going to sleep while in every game!?

Whenever i play games in my PC, it have a little blips in it, and after a while the screen gone black and ';Monitor Going To Sleep'; then it come back, after a few time of that, the screen resolution of my desktop change from 1280*1024 to 1280*960!

Sometimes Steam games i have do have problems, but my Warcraft III work fine, sometimes they all ruined.

    - Close all programs that uses up kernal

    - Clean the inside of my pc

    - Defrag Harddisk

but they doesnt help at all

Need help! please tell me how to fix this!My screen resolution change after few monitor going to sleep while in every game!?
Have you tried another monitor? If the problem stops, then it's probably that which is broken.

Alternatively, it could be that the resolution in your games are set wrong. Make sure that both game and desktop resolutions are set at the native for your monitor. This is important to check, as LCD's hate being set at a strange resolution.

After that, assuming you aren't using onboard graphics, you should update your graphics card drivers. Do this by going to Add/Remove Programs, and uninstalling the ATi drivers there. Then go to their website, and download the latest drivers.

Your graphics card could also be broken, but lets leave that for now, actually...

Only other thing I can think of is power settings. Go into Display Properties %26gt; Screen Saver Tab %26gt; Power, and set all menus to ';Never';, and ensure Hibernation is switched off.

Hope that helps! My screen resolution change after few monitor going to sleep while in every game!?
Uhm... try updating your video card...

(you didn't mention your graphics card.)

    or...

you could try updating your video card's driver...
It may be the game, or your drivers!

Go onto the page of your graphics card manufacturer, and download the latest driver for the graphics card. Also, update all the drivers / hardware on Windows Update.

If that doesn't work, go into the display setting of the game, changing the resolution, and hopefully it will work!

Screen resolution changed and won't change back.. 10 POINTS IF YOU CAN HELP.?

So here's the deal. My computer was acting funky when I tried to boot up a video editing program. Program wasn't responding for 15 minutes straight so I unplugged the computer from the power unit it was on (did not reformat the system because all my stuff is still there.) BIG MISTAKE. I certainly will NOT be doing that again. Because when I restarted the system, the screen resolution was sitting at 640 something x 800 something and when I went into Control Panel to modify it, it wouldn't change. I also tried System Restore. Didn't do anything.

My computer's OS is Windows XP Professional.

    Computer make is Dell.

I cannot reinstall the OS. That is not an option.

Also, calling a Tech Support person isn't an option, so please don't bother with those kinds of answers if you intend to post.

    How can I fix this?

I know that fixing the problem involves graphics drivers and stuff. But everytime I look it up, the explanations leave me no where and are too complicating for me, plus, sometimes it seems like when someone's instructions tell me to go to My Computer and do something, it doesn't appear the way they describe so I can't do anything.

Can anyone actually shed some light on this? I'm totally lost! ):Screen resolution changed and won't change back.. 10 POINTS IF YOU CAN HELP.?
    *facepalm*

Firstly, never unplug the computer, never do a system restore.

System restore is very buggy and doesn't always fix what you intend it to work.

Secondly, I hate you for still having XP professional. I'm on W7. It's terrible.

    Now to fix your problem.

    1: Go to your desktop

2: Right Click on the Desktop

    3: Click on properties

4: Go to the screen resolution tab near the top of the window

5: Change the screen size from 800x600 to something ideal like 1024x768

    6: Hit Apply and OK

If your screen flickers once or twice, then stays at 800x600 ... then chances are you have an issue with your hardware. Seeing as you pulled out your power supply, opening up your computer and changing components isn't an option.

The only relatively safe thing I can advise you to do next is update your drivers.

    1: Click the start menu

    2: Go to control panel

3: Under the View tab, change your view to classic start menu. The blue bar on the left lets you do this too if I remember correctly.

    4: Open Device Manager

5: Go to Display Adapters, and expand it until you see what the adapter is.

6: Right click on it, click Properties.

If it's working, that's good. Otherwise, I think there should be a troubleshooting option or some way to repair it. If not, I'm not sure what else you can do.Screen resolution changed and won't change back.. 10 POINTS IF YOU CAN HELP.?
If you purchased your computer from DELL..it should have a Resource Disk--that is where the Graphics Driver is..

Do Not..re-install the CHIPSET driver..it can only be intalled after the OS..has been re-installed//a Clean re-install is the OS..and its ChipSet Driver..//

    ===

Also..look in the Control Panel at your Video Settings--look at your REFESH RATE..set it @60-Hz/look in Monitor(properties)..

    ===

If you go to websites that keep asking that you download their Media Player--you might want to stop doing that..that's why your REFESH RATE is changing..

    ===

    Basically..if your having a resolution issue/

Just re-install the graphics driver..check your resolution settings..

Check the REFESH RATE..mine runs at 60-Hz/

Safe Mode Bootup ?XP, Vista, Win7

    =============

Try this, its easy and will not harm anything

Slowly tap the F8 key while the computer is powering up

Just after the screen goes blank, the F8 key will point the computer to a menu where safe mode can be selected.

Note if you mistakenly tap F8 key again, it will continue through to normal boot, so power down and try again.

Scroll and select Last known good configuration.

This is stronger than doing a system restore in normal mode.

Wait till the boot has finished before clicking anything.

(System restore is the first line of restoration.

The second line is last known good configuration.

The third line is system restore in safe mode.

The fourth line is repair from your disk recovery console.

The fifth line is a delete partition with clean install).

After doing last known good restore and if you need to adjust the resolution follow this:

XP - update video or sound driver

    -------------------------------------

    in XP do this

click start %26gt;help and support %26gt;type in processor in the search

in the results look for find hardware and in there your video or sound card is displayed

highlite some of the video or sound card text of the name and type and press control +c to copy it

paste it in google and add driver

in the results pick one that looks like the manufacturer and download the latest driver

if its an exe file just double click it to install.

if its a driver file then right click my computer icon %26gt;manage %26gt;device manager.

For video expand display adapter %26gt;right click your video card %26gt;update driver %26gt;point wizard to your file.

for sound expand sound %26gt; right click the audio controller %26gt;update driver %26gt;point wizard to your file.

    reboot.

    for video

Right Click the empty space on the desktop%26gt; properties%26gt; settings. Choose a resolution where the little screen in the window is the same shape as your screen.

Some graphics cards overide windows resolution settings. You can tell this is the case because the settings will not change from windows settings. If so hover the mouse over the icons in the sys tray near the clock. One of the icons will be the graphics card. Right click it and follow your nose to sniff out how to alter the resolution.

  • Laptop to tv screen resolution?

i have a problem, so i hooked up the vga wire from my laptop to my tv, and everything was cool and whatnot, but everything on my tv looks bigger, how can i fix it so that everything looks normal (if that's possible). i don't know how to change screen resolution and all that, so if it involves that, know that i have a windows xp hp laptop, so if you guys can guide me with that it'd be awesome! thanks!Laptop to tv screen resolution?
Control Panel usually will have an option for your graphics adapter, like Nvidia Properties. Also right click desktop/properties,settingsLaptop to tv screen resolution?
Right click anywhere on your background, click personalize, then desktop background, select the square with the picture stretched out to fit the screen. Then back up, got to the bottom and click display settings then drag the resolution bar to the max.

Why can't I change my screen resolution?

I know how to but it's stuck at 800x600. It won't let me change it so it's smaller and it's so annoying. Why can't I change my screen resolution?
Usually that is caused by the type of monitor that is defined/installed within the Device Manager. You can try changing that to a different one.Why can't I change my screen resolution?
you might not have a graphics card capable of smaller resolutions, or the appropriate driver for it. check out windows update, and select custom updates. they may have the updated driver for your card.
Try removeing it from your device manager then rebooting, it should set up everything from scratch. You can then re-install the drives with your CD or go to the website for the latest drivers. If that does not work then the last guy is probably correct about the capabilities of your video card.

    Changing screen resolution from DOS?

I changed the screen resolution accidentaly to a level my monitor cannot see (Out of Bounds). How can I change the settings on DOS so I can get my screen back to normal

Note - Safe mode does NOT work on fixing this, this is on Windows XP. The Login and main screens after that are all black with a red box, so I cannot see ANYTHING, so please do not say 'use safe mode' or go to properties because I can't see what's on my screen and safe mood doesn't work.Changing screen resolution from DOS?
SAFE mode and Normal mode use different graphics drivers thus different resolutions. SAFE mode uses the generic MS VGA driver that just displays low resolution during login. So usually, if you messed display settings in Normal mode, you should still be able to open SAFE mode and make adjustments or reinstall the graphics driver.

If SAFE mode won't even open, your OS is quite messed up and probably needs repair. Only after a repair and driver reinstallation would you be able to make the adjustments.

It sounds like it it is a drivers issue with your video card. You would have to update them for it to work
You may need to install/update your video drivers first.
Control Panel%26gt;display%26gt; setting then you can change it to what you need by simply dragging the arrow to your desired resolution.

    Good luck
What operating system are you using? Since you did not specify, I will use Windows XP as an example, but Windows 98, ME, 2000 and Vista should be similar. Before you start changing the screen resolution, ask and answer, the following

    questions:

    1. Does my video adapter support the 1600x1200 resolution and do I have the proper drivers installed?

    2. Does my display monitor support 1600x1200 resolution and do I have the proper drivers installed?

Since you are seeing the default monitor as your monitor type, you will need to load at least the monitor driver. You need to get these from the manufacturer's website or the disk provided with the computer and monitor.

After you have loaded the correct drivers for the video adapter and the monitor, go to your display properties page, click on the settings tab. Click on the advanced button. Click on the Monitor tab. You should see your monitor displayed as the monitor type. If not, try to get updated monitor drivers to the latest version or you may have installed the wrong monitor driver.

If you see your monitor displayed as the monitor type, click on the adapter tab at the top. Click on the ';List all modes...'; button. Verify that the 1600x1200 display mode is shown in the ';List of valid modes'; window. If not, and you have the correct video adapter drivers installed, your video adapter probably does not support 1600x1200 resolution.

If you have more information on your computrer, I could probably help you better.

    How to change screen size?

My laptop screen picture does not fill the whole screen like it used to, i tried changing the screen resolution but it only allows the image to get smaller and not bigger. Anyway other way to increase the screen size? How to change screen size?
If it has been fairly recently that your computer made these unwanted changes to the screen size, you can try to do a System Restore to an Earlier Date to see if that will help at all. Go to Start Menu, then Control Panel, then to System Restore and then find an earlier date to restart your computer to. You won't lose any stored data, but the computer should just restore the settings for that date, so that if your screen was whole screen, it will restore itself.

You can also try to click and drag the frame of the application you are trying to do. Click on the top corner of the frame. You will see a diagonal arrow. Move it to the top edge of the screen. Then, once in place, click on Window on your toolbar and then select the Remember Size and Position option and this will also get your computer to change. (This is probably the easier of the two options I have listed here).

In either case, good luck. How to change screen size?

Why can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook?

I have tried to change it in the display settings tab and the slider is right down to the left, but it just won't move when i try to move it to the right. I have been through my 'troubleshooter' and checked the drivers etc and changed the 'hardware acceleration' to 'none' but nothing has made any difference.

The reason why I'm trying to do this is that I'm doing an online ECDL course and coursework opens in a window that is too small for its contents but it can't be scrolled down and no matter how big i stretch the window the bottom part soesn't display so I can't do my work unless i fix this problem. I'm told changing the resolution will fix it, but if anyone has any other advice as to how to sort the problem I'd be very grateful! thank you.Why can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook?
First, by choosing ';none'; as your Hardware Acceleration you are LIMITING the capabilities of your display. Slide that back all the way to the right again.

Second, since you are using a Mini, or a Netbook, one of the things you have to adjust to is that you will NEVER have a large screen resolution. One of the downsides to those cute, ultra-portable devices is that they do have smaller screens and more limited screen resolutions.

You SHOULD have gotten a regular laptop, if you wanted the most compatibility possible. So yes, you were told that changing the resolution would help, but that is a generic solution. Your Netbook does not have the capabilities of expanding to a larger resolution. From Compaq.com...

';The Compaq Mini isn't an alternative to a laptop. It's designed to be a highly mobile companion to either your laptop or desktop PC.'; http://www.compaq.com/country/products/m

The Maximum resolution possible on that netbook is 1024 x 576.

end of lineWhy can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook?
    try setting your Hardware accelerator to a setting other than ';none';

Sometimes you can only go so far with screen resolution till you hit the maximum that it's capable of going to.
First go to the Start Menu, Go to Appearance and Personalization, then click Adjust Screen Resolution which be under the Personalization category.

    I hope this helpfull !!!!!

I have windows 7 pro and when i go to change the screen resolution it is on 800 by 600 32 bit. The drop down box is gray, and it doesn't open. How to i change my screen resolution to a higher resolution/ Help 100pts best answerWindows 7 screen resolution won't change?
Well first off all make sure you have the admin rights to change your screen resolution on the computer. Also you might not have the correct video card drivers installed or your screen doesn't support the resolution that you are trying to set it to.Windows 7 screen resolution won't change?
Your video card, if you have one, has to be able to handle higher resolutions, and also, your monitor.

It could be that 800 x 600 is as high as it will go.

If you have a video card installed, check to see what is the maximum resolution it will handle. Or maybe you just need to install and update your video drivers to work with Win 7
You need to install your graphics card drivers and possibly one for your screen depending on what one you have. I can guide you through this ask me here http://www.pchelphq.com
Not sure, but try this. Go to your desktop. Right click %26amp; click on properties. Go to settings tab and slide screen resolution thing all the way to the right. Click Apply. Did it work?
the first thing to do is update your graphics card drivers

maybe you card will only support the low res

The screen resolution won't change. It is set at 1024 by 768 pixels. The moniter is a NEC MultiSync LCD1550V. so the screen is like square. There are only two options to set it to 800 by 600 or the current one.How do I change my LCD screen resolution?
The default resolution for that model is 1024 x 768 and that will give the best results, but you need to make sure that your graphics card can actually operate at that as well, otherwise upgrade your graphics card.

You should always run a LCD monitor at its default resolution as other settings often don't look very good. How do I change my LCD screen resolution?
then that is the only resolution your graphics card supports.
    wth
the highest resolution you can use is your current one.

to get the resolution you want or use max reso., you need to have both monitor and graphics card be able to display the reso. so you'd have to upgrade.

    Solution 1

use system restore, rollback to the date before your student had done something on your computer, go to start, all programs, accesssories, system tools, system restore. If it works, you still need to go to do window update from microsoft site.

    Solution 2

right click on the desktop, choose properties, settings tab, take down the Display: driver name which show the video card manufacturer and the make, then do a search for the manufacturer site and download and install the latest video driver, restart pc.

Some games, particularly older ones, simply dont support widescreen... there was no reason for them to do so at the time they were developed. Sometimes you can edit the games config file to force a widescreen resolution, but more often than not, this causes problems of its own such as graphic anonolies, or the game simply wont start.

Else, you could try disabling scaling on your monitor (YMMV, I've had no luck with my monitor, but others have) and then using a 4:3 resolution. Though you probably have already.

Reinstall your video driver! Matter of fact, reinstall ALL your drivers. Download them from the hardware or pc mfgs site. DONT depend on windows to load drivers for you. You will end up with a bunch of out dated and generic drivers. It sounds like you need the display drivers for your specific video card. Go to the manufactures website and download. The drivers currently installed are probably The Generic Windows Video drivers.
