Not promising anything, but try this - right click on the desktop, got o view, unclick all of the align ones. If all else fails, you can make them tiny by using ctrl + the mouse wheel while clicked on the desktop.

How can I save my desktop layout when changing screen resolution?
I have Windows Vista (UGH) and I am testing website layouts in different screen resolutions/browsers. It is driving me crazy that every time I change the resolution, my desktop icons get all messed up! I know there must be an easy way to stop this from happening, but I haven't found a way, yet.
