It's fine until I run a program that changes the screen resolution like a game, it changes back to normal when I exit the game, it's just at the next start up it changes to the resolution the game was in. Pretty sure I have the latest drivers. It's been doing this from the first day I got this computer. Any ideas how to fix it?Screen resolution changes at start up?

I support a few models of Fujitsu that have an ATI video card. They have a setting that Ctrl+Alt+(Up, Down, Left or Right) will rotate the display 90 degrees at a time, and the cats have no problem doing this.
If you check your display settings, Start...Settings...Display...
Click the Settings tab. You should have an Advanced button near the bottom, press that.
That should bring up the settings for your video card.
Flip through those tabs (if there is more than one) and you should find one that has a list of HotKey combinations. You should be able to see which ones are available, and maybe even turn off the hotkeys.

I cant seem to find where on the television or on the xbox 360 the correct place where i can change the resolution. The xbox is currently playing on 480p (i saw that number flash on the screen once), but the tv supports 720p/1080i. How do i change the resolution so i can get the games in high definition? As a point of reference, i do not have the hdmi connector (not supported by my xbox 360, and all the component cables are connected correctly). I am also using the xbox 360 as my dvd player, so i'm guessing the resolution will improve the quality of those as well.
Also, my standard analog cable (no digital or HD box) is producing a poor picture on the TV. Is this due to the resolution or just due to the poor signal? Can anything be done to make it clearer (besides the obvious of buying a digital or HD box)?

the first answer is right about the resolution. next this is how you change the resolution of the 360. the main screen on the 360 is the ';dashboard'; if this does not come up at first. then press the x-box logo button in the middle top of the controller. a side bar will apear. press the yellow ';y'; button. this will bring you to the dashboard. press left or right till you get to the settings menu. then go to display. youcan change the resolutionoutput to 720p or 1080i. id pick 720p since thats the native resolution of your tv. The screen resolution is not controlled by the TV but by the equipment hooked up to it. You saw the 480p flash on the screen which means your xbox is outputting 480p. For you to get higher resolution, the Xbox must configured to output 720p/1080i. As for how that would be done, I don't have an xbox so I can't advise you on that part. However I do have an upconverting DVD player and I had to set it up to output the 720p signal in order for my HDTV to display in 720p so I believe you need to do the same for your Xbox.
As for analog cable producing a poor picture, part of it is due to the standard tv signal being 480i. To get the best possible picture, use the higest quality output that your cable box has. Quality from highest to lowest, HDMI, component, s-video and composite.

From there, go to Console Settings. Then go to Display, and from there just change the resolution to 1080i. Remeber that you have to move the switch on your Component cable from TV to HDTV.
As for the poor picture quality, if you dont have Cable or Satellite, then the problem is due to poor signal. If you do have cable or satellite then i suggest checking the resolution settings from your TV or just getting better analog cables (I used to have the same problem so I bought analog cables of better quality). How can I change my screen resolution from standard (4:3 based) to widescreen (16:9 based)?
I just got a new monitor for my computer, but have encountered a problem that makes the appearance quite stretched and blurry: The actual computer isn't exactly new (it's a few years old; maybe 3-4 years) and so it's set for a standard moniter setting; a 4:3 ratio. The new moniter however, is brand new, and it's widescreen; so it's optimized for a 16:9 ratio.

Some programs change the resolution to run properly. This is especially true of some older games, TV Tuners, Virtual-PC, and a few others. If it's a good program, it should put thengs back how they were when you close it.
Vista will also restrict the resolution, visual-themes (like disabling Vista Aero), and other things if it detects an known compatibility issue with whatever is running. I have this with RealPlayer...it should go back within a few minutes of closing the program though.

The title essentially says it all. Recently i had to Re-boot my computer and start fresh due to some vicious malware. Before, i was able to change the resolution from 1024x768 all the way to 600x480 with all color quality options available. Now, the slider for screen resolution is not present and only has one setting which is 640X480 with 16bit. So i looked this up on google and found that if i were to go through Advanced%26gt;Adapter%26gt;List All Modes i could manually change it there. However, when i do so (using 800x600 and the default refresh mode) i end up with only 8bits on the color quality and that looks like total ****. today i made the stupid mistake of putting a old game in made for 95/98 windows to my windows vista laptop...i was amazed when it played and it was funny until i turned the game off and saw that my laptop had changed the screen resolution to fit game which is a pixelated zoomed in version of my desktop with only a few huge buttons visible!
i have restored my laptop back a few days so the game is gone but it still has this crappy resolution problem, and tests windows runs to fix problems on the laptop don't work because it doesn't see anything wrong, cause technically the computer works fine
it suggests changing the resolution when i log on but when i get to that part on the control panel i can't get the button on the screen to change it, rendered me stuck.
i've even tired putting another (current) game in the hope it would change it back, the game plays fine but when you quit, the strange zoomed in pixelated desktop is back :(
i really don't want to have to put it back to factory settings for such a stupid thing, please if someone can help me fix this

When you can't view windows, buttons etc. you can use the keyboard to make changes and move the window around. The topmost window can be moved using the Alt - space bar (press Alt key and then press space bar key once while Alt key is still pressed down, and then release both simultaneously). You will get an drop down menu, where move is the second option (or the M key on the keyboard). Then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the window around. When you have the required button or control visible (in the screen area), you can press Enter key to position the window there.
Sometimes, the window reverts back to it's original position when you press enter, so you have to remember the location of the cursor / highlighted button and then press TAB key repeatedly till you are on the correct button/ window control. e.g. one TAB key press moves you one button or control forward, while Shift - TAB moves you backwards.
Enter key works similar to OK while the ESC key is like Cancel.
Try it with a visible window so that you are comfortable with keys when something like this happens.

I want to change my bios screen resolution so that the boot loader and bios screen stretch BEFORE i boot into windows...it works fine with different cables...but when i use an HDMI cable the bios doesnt fit the screen until im into the OS.

If you have the correct driver loaded then you only have the choices availble on the resolution slider.
It should not make any real difference to the speed of your PC for just using windows.

I have a dell 26 n lcd tv/monitor hooked up to my dell computer...was messing around and changed the screen resolution in windows (vista). Now my monitor has this bouncing msg that says ';out of range can't display this video mode. Change computer display input to 1360x768 at 60hz';. but it won't let me because I can't see anything. Have restarted, F8 and safe mode, but it only brings up the welcome screen for maybe 1 second before returning to the blank screen with the same ';out or range...'; message.

If you used F8 to boot into VGA mode there should be NO issue at that point. It should boot into a VERY crappy looking low resolution. If you're still experiencing some sort of issue then you're in a bit of trouble. The only options I can think of is remote control the computer from another PC or take it to a shop that has access to higher end monitors and see if they can't just make the adjustment for you.good teenage dating advice tvs

Ive got a laptop and am trying to set the resolution to 800x600, whenever i do change it to this, it only fills a portion of the screen in the center, i want it so it fills the whole screen whilst keeping it on 800x600 format so all the words are enlarged as i have poor eye sight

It means that Installed version of your monitor driver doesn't support different resolutions. Try to do it with the graphics driver. It is in the control panel. If it is not there, install one that supports your motherboard.

a: Your screen / gfx card is incapable of displaying a resolution other than its current settings, or

If u mean it zoomed in in the bottom right corner it says a percentage - put it to 100 and it be fine
there a shortcut aswell which is
CTRL + Mouse scroll Up for bigger Down for smaller.

Try right-clicking on your wallpaper. Works for me in XP, don't know if Ubuntu is kinda the same.

hi david,yes its hard to change the resolution back to its original setting when the display is too large,however try using the display icon in your taskbar
both nvidia and ati use task bar icons as quick access to there control functions,just right click the specific icon and select resolution and then choose either 800x600 or 1024x768,these are the best resolutions to use for average monitors
alternatively you can restart your p.c and gently tap f8 to enter safe mode,using safe mode no drivers are installed and you should be able to reset your original resolution in there
however if your display drivers were correctly installed just restart the p.c as per normal,when windows starts up it will recognize that the display is too low and issue you a message that the display is too low and do you want to change it to the default resolution(1024x768 for 17'; displays and 1280x1024 for 19'; displays),just choose yes and the display will return back to its correct setting

both nvidia and ati use task bar icons as quick access to there control functions,just right click the specific icon and select resolution and then choose either 800x600 or 1024x768,these are the best resolutions to use for average monitors
alternatively you can restart your p.c and gently tap f8 to enter safe mode,using safe mode no drivers are installed and you should be able to reset your original resolution in there
however if your display drivers were correctly installed just restart the p.c as per normal,when windows starts up it will recognize that the display is too low and issue you a message that the display is too low and do you want to change it to the default resolution(1024x768 for 17'; displays and 1280x1024 for 19'; displays),just choose yes and the display will return back to its correct setting

go into tools when you go into the internet and go ont text size and change it back to medium or small. then press menu on the computer screen it will come up with some options go onto screen resolution and change it back to the size u had it?

the thing is that one user is for me, where i want a high resolution so that everything will be smaller on my screen, and the second is for my parents, and they want the icons and the text to be big. as far as i understand the resolution change affects all users, which is frustrating. i hope i'm wrong and someone can give me an advice how to change the resolution only on one user accountIf i have 2 user accounts on my windows xp, can i change the screen resolution on only ONE of them?
