I got a 23 inc LG W2361VG monitor and the resolution keeps changing each time I run a full screen app.?
I try running CoD MW2 and each time I close my game my screen changes back to 1600x1024 resolution each time. Okay, for school we have laptops. Now, while playing diner dash, i shut my laptop and when I opened it back up. My screen resolution was changed. It's really small. I lent my computer to my friend and he played some type of game that changed the resolution of my screen. Now, when I go in and try to switch my resolution to a size I can handle it will not let me due to the fact that the font is so large I cannot access the 'Apply' button on the bottom.

Do you have a scroll wheel on a mouse plugged into your portable? If you do, hold down the Ctrl key (bottom left of keyboard), and scroll the scroll wheel on your mouse away from you one click. See what it does to the display... do it again until you are comfortable with the display. It works in this window quite well, lol, I tested it to make sure it was changing before suggesting it.

We moved our PC into our daughters room when we got a Mac. Now, last night i did a whole full system recovery to wipe everything off it. Then installed Windows XP Professional (With Service pack 2). All was well until it rebooted. screen looks awful. Resolution is so very low. Message pops up and says resolution is set to lowest setting do you want windows to change it? Windows Vista Screen Resolution Problem?
Earlier this evening I upgraded my OS from Windows 2K to Vista, but now I can't change my screen resolution. The highest resolution that I can set my screen to now is 1024x768, but I know that my 19'; LCD is capable of 1440x900 because that was what I had it at on Windows 2K. How can I fix this? Also download all critical updates. If not you will have to go into the manufactures support site and download the drivers from there. You need your display drivers. Looks like the computer lost it. So if you have a branded computer go to the maker's website and search for the video/display drivers for your computer model.

Okay. I've tried and tried to figure what's wrong with it but it's making me mad now. You know how the little promotions come up on the side of your computer from Real Player on movies music and etc...? Well anytime the little thing pops up my whole screen resolution changes from 1280 X 800 pixels to 800 X 600 pixels. And every single time I have to go and change it. After I change it, if something new is clicked: like let's say I click a new song to listen to it changes for a moment to the 800 X 600 then back to the 1280 X 800. It just takes a while. Alright, this is what I did when my graphics card was being a butthole and I had to run it in a window for a while (then found out I just had to restart the computer :P). You go to it, whether you have an icon on your desktop or it's in the Start Menu. You right click on it and go to the bottom of the list, 'Properties'. Then go to 'Target:' which should already be highlighted. Click in the box to where it isn't highlighted. At the end, there's exe';. After that, put a space, and then '-w'. The 'W' is for 'Window'. if it isn't what you wanted, you can change it back to fullscreen by changing the W to F. 'F' for fullscreen. you can change the resolution in the fifth button to different resolutions, but they will always be fullscreen unless and until you start running your game in windowed mode. I do, and it's much better than fullscreen, and allows for more flexibility with your computer while the game is running.
Once the game is in windowed mode, you can change how much of your screen space it uses by changing the resolution settings in the game as mentioned above.
The only thing you have to do is add a -w at the end of your shortcut. You can do this with any of the expansion packs, too.
Detailed Instructions:
Right click on your shortcut, select properties, then select the tab that says ';shortcut.'; At the very end of the Target path (after the ';), put in a space then -w and click OK.

How do I get web pages to fit onto my screen?
Many web pages are too large to fit on my screen, and I have to constantly scroll left to right to read them. It's really annoying. I only have two choices for screen resolution - 800 by 600 pixels and 1024 by 768 pixels. I can't seem to modify the resolution to anything else. Right now the monitor is set to 800 by 600 pixels. MY DPI is set at Normal Size (96 DPI). My monitor is a Dell E551c.

It was designed for 800 by 600 and that is the whole display. Most web pages are designed with at least 800 by 600 web page size so when you add in the browser address bar, status bar etc, scrolling is needed.
To put a lot of info (a whole web page) on a small space (a dell 15 inch monitor) requires a small font or a lot of scrolling. Your eyesight cant handle small fonts and your hands dont like the scrolling so get a new larger monitor.

If you have many things connected to your TV including a cable box, then maybe calling to have some one to fix it might be a good option.
The game may only display in that resolution. A lot of older games display best in a lower resolution. I'm not exactly how to fix it, but that's why it keeps on changing!

This happens when your monitor doesnt support the resolution that you chose. To solve this problem, follow these steps:
1.Restart your computer and keep hitting F8 function key.
2.Choose safe mode from the options when displayed on the screen.
3.Now, when your dekstop is accessible, change your resolution to a lower level than you previously did and restart again. This should have solved the problem now.

CRT Television type screens - are far more tolerant to this. They may look bad but will generally work in a way LCD screens wont.
Look at the instructions that came with the screen.
To sort it out start your computer and press ';F8'; - this may vary - to get the options to start screen.
Select VGA Mode and when Windows starts right click in a vacant area of your screen and select properties then Settings.
Input the correct setting for your screen.

The previous answers explain the ';where'; part, but the REAL question is:
IS it an LCD monitor? If so, LCD monitors (Digital) aren't the same as CRT monitors (Analog).
Use ONLY the ';Native Resolution AND Screen Refresh Rate (60 HZ)'; as specified on the manufacturer's web site for your LCD monitor, by model number.
Find them, then, right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties (XP, Personalize, if Vista) to open the Display Properties Window. Any time I play a PC game on my computer (XP), it is a small screen surrounded by black. Change resolution of Dell Inspiron Mini! HELP!!?

I suggest uninstalling the driver. Then reinstall the driver using EnvyNG.
To install EnvyNG for Kubuntu open a Terminal and submit the following command :

Once installed run the software to install your graphics driver and restart when installation is complete.
That should fix it .

I used to have a screen resolution fine for a 17' screen, I don't remember the exact umbers but it was higher than 1024 x 768.
This morning I turned the pc on and the resolution is 1024 x 768, and if I try to change it, the previous option is disappeared and I can only chose between 800x600 and 1024x768!

I was about to burn my files on a cd last night but my computer hanged so I restarted my computer and when it started it was already set to the lowest resolution and I tried to change it in the display settings but it won't let me. Once that is done check the display tab of directx to make sure it recognizes your X300. Type 'dxdiag' into the run box from the start menu. Under device, see if you recognize the name.

After playing a game that takes up the whole screen my resolution changed. Of course I change it back to 1280 x 800 but whenever my laptop goes to sleep and I open it the resolution changes and I have to wait 3-5 seconds for it to change back to what I changed it to last time. It's usually set to 1680 x 1050...I don't really know how it got to 1440 x 900. And I have a vista, if that makes any difference.

I've gotten most of the drivers working again but the graphics isn't letting me change my screen resolution from the giant-looking 800x600 to my normal 1024x768. It sounds like you don't have current video card drivers.
Try this;
1) connect to the internet (assuming you are dial out or if always connected no issue)
2)RH mouse click on my computer RH not LH

7)LH Mouse select from the devices ';Display Adapters';

12)Select next on the bottom
13)It should go on the net, if this is a MS Supported Video Card, update the drives and if it does so then click finish.

If it doesn't do an update and says cannot do update then you will need to go to your MFG's site, Like www.dell.com. They will ask what you want to do in one verbage or another similar to below.

Ubuntu: how do i change the screen resolution if i cant see the screen!?
ubuntu was working fine, i was working on getting my wireless card up, but last night i booted it it up (hd tv is the moniter) and everything went fine, got to the login screen, and i can see everything fine, but once i log in ubuntu changes the screen resolution to something that the tv wont display. is there an easy way around this at all? or even a hard way? i think there was a key comand on suse to cycle resolutions but that never worked on suse for me, something like that because i can use a keyboard and a mouse and no screen. can i stop it from doing start x and just use teh linux itself to change the res? idk what to doUbuntu: how do i change the screen resolution if i cant see the screen!?
If you can get into the GRUB menu when you boot you should have the option of booting in verbose or some kind of ';safe'; mode. You should then be able to change the resolution. I didn't know how to do this when it happened to me and had to reinstall.

Ok, I know that it sounds easy but really its not like that. I have a ViewSonic VA721 runnig on a S3 Graphics ProSavage video card. My computer is a Compaq Presario. I REINSTALLED WINDOWS XP because I had to renew my computer. When I go on properties%26gt; settings%26gt; screen resolution, its 800x600 and the other is 1024x768. No 1280x1024 is available. however, I try to change it to 1024x768 my screen goes black and it reboots. I tried Updating the driver for my video card but it doesnt seem to really work.
I know that it can be changed to a higher resolution because I could do so before I reinstalled XP. After reinstalling XP I'm stuck with this low resolution and it stops me from being able to use my softwares properly.

You can't slide the 'slider', but have you tried clicking the scale at the highest end to move it?
Left click your mouse on the desktop, scroll down to properties... click on settings... there should be a slide bar for you to manipulate at this point... slide left for less resolution and right for more resolution.
Be gentle with the bar as you might lock your computer up if you rush the process.

Why is screen resolution changed when I get on Yahoo?
My screen is set to 1024 X 768 and always has been (5 yrs.). Why does my screen resolution change after hibernation?
I have a new Dell Vostro laptop on Windows XP. After hibernating, my screen display comes out in an enlarged resolution so I can't even see the entire screen and it even shifts side to side or up and down as I move my mouse pointer in that direction.

if Ur screen is 17p,press the right button of the mouse,choose,propritites then settings,after that press advanced,at the first page U can change the ';dpi';(general) and at (Adapter) U will find the resolution by clicking on (list all modes)then choose what U want,have a nice day
